The Jamaica Motoring Club saw a Bajan Invasion
of their annual December All Stage Gravel Rally (Dec 7 -8).
Of the 26 teams, 7 of them were Barbadians. Lets introduce the
Bajan attack: |

Friday 7th, December. The day before the rally was hectic.
This is the part were many of us fans don't get to witness.
The first thing to grace my eyesight when I arrived at the
hotel was the Ford Escort Cosworth of Roger Skeete and the
familiar faces of the Bajan service crews. The crew was working
on affixing the stickers of the sponsors on the car. I must
say it sounds simple, but that was no easy task, especially
when your car has a bunch of other stickers already on it.
Did you know that sticker placing has restrictions? Some
sponsors don't want their stickers placed just anywhere on
the car, like the roof for example. The term used is "Pride
of Placement," and include sweet spots like the bonnet and
doors. Some require that not one but two stickers be placed
on the car (although they never said you can't put one on
top of the other). As a matter-of-fact, failure to comply
with the sticker placement regulations may result in exclusion
from the event.

In the hotel bar, I found Wayne Manning, Wilbert Hinds
and the Linton Brothers finalising their pace notes.
Gathering the information for the paces notes earlier
that day proved to be a challenge. Let's just say that
the maps provided of the stages could have been a bit
better. It took some of the teams about 7 hours to locate
and map out the stages. It was even difficult for some
of the Jamaicans. Many of the teams got lost at some
point or the other.

Location: Petcom Service Station, Nago
Head, Portmore, St. Catherine
We are here at the official starting point of the Rally.
The Honourable Consul for Barbados in Jamaica, Winston Bayley,
is seen here greeting the Bajan teams. All the competitors
gather here before they head off to the 1st stage. Rally Fans
will know this is the best place to see their favourite cars
in one piece :-)
